Did Trump Win the Third Presidential Debate?
The first question on everyone’s mind this morning is who won the third presidential debate?
Depending on whether you’re a staunch republican or staunch democrat, you might have two different answers. That’s to be expected.
What is more interesting to me is the role that social media has in influence the perception of who won the third presidential debate.
I would love it if you would take the poll at the bottom of this page and let me know.
Interestingly, I found this meme (at the top of the article) in my Twitter feed and it got me thinking.
You thought you knew who won the third presidential debate yesterday, right? How many of you began to have doubts after watching the news or reading about it on social media?
There is no shame in admitting that you were influenced. Human beings are influenced by things in their environment.
It used to be that people relied on the newspapers or on TV networks to give a good analysis of politics. We assumed that newscasters did enough research, as part of their jobs, to really give a weighty, reliable opinion.
But then the giant that is social media happened. Make no mistake. It is a giant.
How Social Media Has Changed EVERYTHING
According to Borrell Associates, “politicians will be allocating over 9 percent of media budget towards digital and social media — this comes to an estimated $1 billion.”
These days, anyone with an opinion, a good following and decent meme-creating skills, can spread his message. If the message is clever enough, people will follow.
Trump, in particular, harnessed the power of social media because he just does not have the money and support from the Republican party that Hillary has from the Democratic party.
He excels at social media marketing because he runs as “just one of the guys”, even though he is a billionaire. This is what works.
Authenticity is a big thing in social media. I think the candidates that are the most successful are the ones that are clearly the most comfortable.” Erin Lindsay, Precision Strategies.
On November 8th we’ll know how effective this strategy is.
I would really appreciate it if you would help me with a little research, and take this poll. How much does Social Media affect your view of the candidates?
